Can You Deep Fry a Turkey?
The concept of deep frying a turkey probably isn’t something that you’re interested in. The thing that comes to mind when I think of deep frying is a greasy and crunchy fries. When I think of my Thanksgiving turkey, I don’t want it to be crispy and extremely greasy. I want a delicious, moist and tender bird, which I think everyone wants. Well, surprisingly you can get a delicious turkey when you deep fry it. The bird is completely moist and tender. It is the best type turkey that I’ve ever eaten.
The first that you need to get if you plan on deep frying a turkey is that you’re going to need a specific type of deep fryer. You can just use anyone because a turkey is a pretty large bird and you’re going to need a descent sized pot. Don’t worry, you can buy one specifically designed for turkeys. What you need to know is that you’re going to have to cook it outside because most likely the oil will be heated with propane or butane. We’re also talking about a lot of oil and it will be boiling hot. Obviously you don’t want to have that sort of operation occurring in your house.
The actual cooking part is relatively simple to understand. Basically you allow the oil to heat up. You put the turkey in the basket and you slowly lower it into the boiling oil. The cooking time is actually a lot faster than baking. You can typically cook an entire turkey in under an hour depending on the size of it.
