I find that the Cool Touch beats out all the high end fryers over $100 and you’ll see that finds the right balance between cost, safety, and reliably cooking up crispy golden fried goodies.

Most people think that cooking fried foods is dififcult and messy. However before you think that this is always true, you’ll see that the Cool Touch fryer takes care of all the common problems faced by home cooks. One of the most common problems with frying up foods at home is that the foods turn out soggy and undercooked because the cooking oil is not hot enough. Hamilton Beach takes care of this problem with a “ready to cook” indicator light that lets you know when the cooking oil is hot enough and ready to use.

On top of the fryer cover there is a clear window that lets you see if your food is done cooking. This way you don’t have to worry about overcooking or burning your food even if this is your first time deep frying at home. Just be sure to life the basket out of the hot oil when you see your food is golden brown and floating on top of the oil. Once the oil is drained you can open up the to cover and pour out your perfectly fried donuts, shrimp, chicken wings, or french fries. It’s so nice to know that the Cool Touch allows even the most novice of home cooks to make perfectly fried restaurant appetizers just like the ones made by professionals.

Besides being easy to use, the Cool Touch stands out from older style electric deep fryers due to its safety features. The white plastic housing keeps the appliance from melting your acrylic tabletop or burning your fingers when the unit is closed. The magnetic cord also disconnects when the unit is pulled or when someone trips over the power cord. This prevents dangerous oil spills and fires from starting. All very important features if you have limited counter space or have small children and pets in your kitchen.

Now before you think that this fryer is difficult to clean up like older style fryers, you’ll be glad to know that the oil pot inside is nonstick and dishwasher safe. Plus all the parts of the Cool Touch are removable for easy clean up. This is not advertised but I have found that I could take out the removable oil pot and store it in my refrigerator. This will keep your cooking oil from going rancid and the fresh oil will be good for cooking several more batches.

All of these features are nice extras to have but if you are to buy any kind of Electric Deep Fryer for your home, then you will need to make sure it is large enough and has a temperature sensor. The only way to get perfectly deep fried food is to avoid overcrowding your fryer and cooking at the right oil temperature. You will definitely notice the difference between a greasy and soggy appetizer cooked in a small fryer with oil that’s too cold and a light and crispy appetizer cooked in a deep pot of hot oil.

I found that frying a batch of coconut shrimp in the Cool Touch was similar to using other electric fryers but there were some pretty neat features that cut down on the mess and danger of using a deep fryer at home. First the wire basket can be lowered and raised even when the deep fryer lid is closed. This keeps the oil inside the fryer and blocks painful oil splatters from landing on your skin when you first drop the foods into the oil. The “ready to cook” indicator light is also an incredibly helpful feature. I will admit that I am usually impatient and can’t resist throwing in my food before my frying oil reaches the right temperature however with the indicator light I could see that it actually takes about 10 to 15 minutes to reach the correct temperature. This feature definitely saved me more than a few wasted and overcooked wings and fries.

Another feature that I really liked is how after you are done using the fryer, the handle on the frying basket folds down so that it’s hidden and not sticking out. I’ve seen other fryers where the handle takes up almost as much counter space as the fryer itself, not to mention that protruding parts are just an oil accident waiting to happen!

While the design of the Cool Touch Electric Deep Fryer is not a sleek stainless steel like most modern appliances I actually prefer the traditional white surface. Stainless steel is normally a nightmare to keep clean and this would be especially true with all the oil that would end up around a deep fryer! There is nothing more unattractive in a clean kitchen than grease stains and fingerprints on stainless steel.

Compared to most bulky deep fryers this Electric Deep Fryer is very easy to clean up. The lid, cover, basket, and filters can all be taken out and easily washed by hand even in the smallest sinks. The oil pot has a nonstick surface and is even dishwasher safe. This makes clean up a breeze and you won’t have to worry how you’re going to clean out your fryer without getting water on delicate electronic parts. Changing the cooking oil after every use is simple. I just poured out the oil into a disposable plastic container once it cooled down to room temperature and washed the oil pot in the dishwasher.

While this is not one of the largest electric deep fryers on the market, it is just the right size if you only want to serve up a normal amount of food for 4-8 people. On the other hand the fryer is large enough that you will have no problems cooking things like fried fish and a basket full of fries.

This Electric Deep Fryer comes with a 1 year warranty from the date of purchase from defects and wear from normal use.

What I Don’t Like About This Deep Fryer

The only thing I don’t like is the slight difficulty I had in seeing the fill line inside the oil pot. This is a minor problem that can be easily solved by making sure you have good lighting when you pour oil into the fryer.
