Deep Fried Pizza

Deep fried pizza is a very popular dish, especially in Scotland where it originated.  This particular dish was first created in the 1970s and is often served with a side of potato wedges.  Any number of toppings is possible and in the south of Scotland, the deep fried pizza is smothered in a brown sauce and folded in half.  It’s also possible to get a deep fried pizza with salt and vinegar and brown sauce.

Pizza can be deep fried with or without batter depending on regional variation.  A battered pizza would obviously have a crunchier exterior.  Deep fried pizza is a perfect food to cook up in you home Electric Deep Fryer since it’s a small appetizer food that anybody can make.

Deep fried pizza is also a very popular dish in Italy.  In an Italian deep fried pizza, the toppings and sauce are sealed inside two layers of pizza dough, forming a pizza pie.  The most simple fried pizza is simply pizza dough topped with salt or sugar and deep fried.  This is known as pizzarella, avvoltolo, gnocco fritto, and other names.
